First Symptoms?

What were the first symptoms you experienced with cardiovascular disease? - What condition was it a symptom of?

  1. I first knew something was wrong when I began to notice I was completely winded when I brought groceries ups the stairs from street level to the front door. The first symptom was AFib and the discover of two severe blockages.

    1. AFib can be frightening! Were you able to have the blockages addressed? How are you feeling now? All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  2. not really. my cardiologist answer was to implant the loop recorder and collect data! that was 2 months ago. i have heard nothing since.

    1. Oh my. It is beyond frustrating when your doctor doesn'r communicate well with you. Open and clear communication channels between someone who is living with a chronic illness and their medical team are so very important (One of our health leaders put her doctor on speed dial!). The unfortunate truth is that too often in our health care system, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. You may need to increase the frequency of how often you contact your cardiologist's office (remember, sometimes you can get quicker answers from the nursing staff). It's difficult to start advocating for yourself, but in your case, it sounds like it is necessary. All the best, Kathy (Team member)

  3. I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia with PVCs and palpitations along with SOB with exertion. I am medication to control my heart rate and anti arrhythmic but still have issues. I have an implantable cardiac loop recorder but not much help because it correlates with the symptoms i feel. My doctors have not been able to determine the cause. I have just started an anti-anxiety med because the palpitations are so distracting and interfere with my daily interactions. All my heart tests are normal except high cholesterol

    1. I am so sorry you are going through all this. It can be difficult and frustrating to have symptoms but no diagnosis. Do you have good medical team caring for you ( and your symptoms) while you travel through the diagnosis journey? Warmly, Kathy (Team member)

  4. Chest pain and profuse sweating that woke me from sleep. It was a symptom of a myocardial infarction (heart attack). The root cause was coronary artery spasm, also known as variant angina. I take medication and it is well-controlled.
My second set of symptoms are harder to explain. I began to feel anxious and short of breath, then it felt like a BAM in my chest, and I would feel better. My cardiologist placed a monitor on me, and we discovered that I have asymptomatic atrial fibrillation. I take Eliquis (a blood thinner) and I rarely have symptoms any more.
